Feels Like Paris!

Thomas Hobbs Florist

Yesterday, I left my neighbourhood for the first time in 7 weeks. Monsieur, I and Tilde drove to Kerrisdale, a fashionable shopping district in Vancouver. Monsieur and Tilde went to the park while I
window shopped and did a few errands.

If you are lucky enough to have lived in Paris as a young man, then wherever you go for the rest of your life, it stays with you, for Paris is a moveable feast.”
― Ernest Hemingway, A Moveable Feast

After so many weeks, travelling to different area, was a pleasant change. I dressed for an urban shopping afternoon. Although we travelled only about 10k, I felt as though I was transported to another world!

Perhaps my bombshell red lipstick and my scarf revived my "Paris self."

The bookseller (bouquiniste) greeted me at the door with my wrapped package of books. The window display called to me. I will order more books in a few weeks.

I strolled (j'ai flâné) along the avenue when I spied a pâtisserie. I'm not often tempted my pastries but I did stop to take a photo.

pretty to look at but I could resist

J'ai adoré cette robe.

Dress shabbily and they remember the dress; dress impeccably and they remember the woman.

This blue dress in Hill's of Kerrisdale called out to me. Such a classic dress! Such a beautiful colour!
With my pliage bag and my blue sandals....perhaps a straw hat, I could visit San Tropez.

Two books, a violet and diffuser scent (Prosecco Bellini) were my only purchases.

  1. Oh, that was lovely! Thank you.

That lipstick looks wonderful on you. I'm not so sure I could have resisted those lovely French pastries. Now I want to find that book you show by Penelope Lively. I bought a copy of her book 'Ammonites & Leaping Fish: A Life in Time' when I visited Oxford, UK, a few springs ago. I think I'll dig it out and add to my growing reading pile. Love the Coco Chanel quotation.

    Wishing you a beautiful weekend....

  2. Oh this was fun! I know it must have been fun for you and you looked oh so lovely. I'm sure people always do remember you, just as Coco promised. That florist shop window! I would have stood before it too. There's something in me that just soaks up beauty so much more appreciatively now than ever before. And my few British Columbia blog friends always fascinate this woman from Nashville. You all bring beauty into my life!
